He says there's some "rule" against it, and if he emails us our grades then we'd have to be willing to "pay his bills for the rest of his life." He thinks he'll get fired for doing it.. Is there such a rule?

Yes. Because e-mail can be intercepted, read by anyone, and sent by anyone, he can't tell you your grade without sending it to your address or telling you face-to-face. Otherwise he could get in trouble for confidentiality.
Reply:Well I dont think you would have to pay his bills, but your grades are probably actually mailed to your parents or guardians and have to be. He probably really has no control over it. If you still see a problem with this I suggest you talk to your principal.
Reply:no my teacher always e-mails us about our grade. It usually says something like grades are updated on the website go check it out. Then there's a link
