I received an email from my Supervisor and she called me ignorant - can I do anything legal about it?

The reason she called me ignorant was because I went over 40 hours in my work week by 6 minutes and she told me that this type of ignorance would keep me from being scheduled work.

No. Ignorant means "without knowledge." It's not the same as "stupid."

Reply:You can take legal action for racial epitaphs or sexual comments (if you've made it clear you object in the past); but you can't sue someone for calling you ignorant. You could talk to her manager. But he's just going to ask if you spoke to her about it.





Make an appointment to see her. Bring a print-out and ask her to read that sentence again. I'm sure she'll admit it was a bit over the top. Ask her politely not to address you like that again. If it happens again, you can tell the manager you've already talked to her about it, and he's more likely to do something about it. In the meantime, if she apologizes, be gracious and move on. Haven't you ever said something you regret? Maybe her dog died that morning or something.
Reply:If she referred to "this type of ignorance," that is not calling you ignorant. She is referring to "ignorance" as in "a lack of knowledge," which she believes you exhibited in working 6 minutes over.

Reply:Sorry, but if you really care about that. Its is something to laugh about... she called you ignorant, So what? go and pout... but "ignorant" is polite and she didn't do anything illegal as far as I see.
Reply:It is not illegal to offend someone. Ignorance might be the correct word if she is referring to not knowing that you could not go over 40 hours or not knowing that you went over the 40.
Reply:Ignorance just means you're showing a lack of knowledge of a particular subject. Don't get all worked up about it, although going over by only 6 minutes hardly seems like a big deal.
